Eleven years ago, I embarked upon my first cruise ship, the Norwegian Sun. The nine months spent on this ship completely changed my perception of musicianship and the goals I would set in my life-long journey pertaining to my career. No longer would I value a quick-fix to success, a free-ticket to stardom, nor would I admire those on the receiving end of these charades. The musicians I met onboard the Norwegian Sun were impeccable in terms of ability and professionalism. On subsequent contracts on various ships, I met these musicians again and parted as friends of mutual respect. On Monday, May 27, 2013 I will embark again on the Norwegian Sun, the beginning from which my transformation occurred that incited me to learn music not as a means to external sucess as defined by a society, but as an end in itself. I am looking forward to walking the cooridors and viewing the rooms of this old vessel whose significance for my future meant so much.
